Note:  We do receive a small percentage of the price of each book bought through our pages.  Rest assured, we are not getting rich from it.  The money goes into our general coven fund to buy supplies like candles, the occasional snack for meetings, a few books for our coven reference library, expenses for community service projects, and that sort of thing.

AzureGreen Jewelry and PentagramsIntroductions to Wicca and Paganism
(from both eclectic and traditional perspectives)

The Truth About Witchcraft Today by Scott Cunningham

Particularly good for those absolutely new to the idea of the Craft, and it also makes a good introduction for friends and family members who know very little about it.

The Spiral Dance : A Rebirth of the Ancient Religion of the Great Goddess by Starhawk

This is one of the first books generally recommended to those interested in Wicca, and it holds up well as your studies progress.
Drawing Down the Moon by Margot Adler
An overview of different types of modern Paganism, featuring many interviews.

All the following books in this section are excellent overviews of Wicca or general Paganism from a traditional viewpoint..

Wicca : The Old Religion in the New Age by Vivianne Crowley

Witchcraft : A Tradition Renewed by Doreen Valiente and Evan Jones

The Pagan Path by Janet Farrar, Stewart Farrar, and Gavin Bone

Principles of Wicca by Vivianne Crowley

Principles of Paganism by Vivianne Crowley

Solitary Practice

Wicca : A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham

The most popular work on beginning to study and work as a solitary.  It is easy to read, extremely positive and inspirational in tone, and addresses most major aspects of Wiccan practice.   This book focuses strongly on the author's own form of eclectic Wicca without offering an overview of other traditions, and some of the discussion of ethics and theory could stand to have a bit more more substance. Overall, it's a great first book, but supplementing it with some other reading material when you're starting to learn might be a good plan.

Living Wicca : A Further Guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham

The sequel to Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner.

Of Witches : Celebrating the Goddess As a Solitary Pagan by Janet Thompson

A thoughtful and rather complete work on solitary practice.

The Wiccan Path : A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Rae Beth

Has a nice focus on grounding yourself in the spiritual and thealogical aspects of Wicca before moving on to working magic .

Inside a Witches' Coven by Edain McCoy

For those who are considering making the transition to group work.  More information on finding, forming or joining a coven can also be found in Starhawk's The Spiral Dance.
