Discussion of the
Element of Water
Water is majestic.
It is the source of all life. From the very beginning of evolution; the
salty water of the sea started the beginning with its one-cell organisms
that eventually gave way to the evolution of humans. Water continues to
be a source of creation. The salty waters of the womb hold the meager beginnings
of all human life. The rain causes the greenery to grow, and the fruit
to blossom and produce. It has many feminine attributes. Water in a warm
bath can calm the tension of the day, and warm and cold water can be applied
to wounds and ease pain. Water can be very healing. There is a dark side
to water as well. Water in storms can flood the earth and kill. The water
that in one second is soothing can turn deadly, causing one to drown. Water,
just like the Mother, has a dark side. People of our religion sometimes
neglect to look at the dark side of the Goddess but She does exist. She
is a mirror of her children, She, like us, is many faceted. Humans are
not completely good, or completely evil—but a combination of the two; She
is as well. Water is reflective, just as the Goddess is reflective of the
elements and spirits of the earth plane and beyond. The moon that represents
the maiden, mother, and crone is also reflective in nature—reflecting the
masculine rays of the sun. There is a theme of duality in all that exists—good
and evil, masculine and feminine, perfect and imperfect. Water is cyclical
as well, flowing from the stream, to the river, and finally to the sea.
Life is cyclical, the moon phases, the rotation of the earth. Water as
an element when focused on religiously lets us be reflective of our every
day lives, think of new endeavors, analyze where we have been and where
we are going, to cope with our imperfections, and strive to let our actions
be more good than evil. Spells performed with this element, in my opinion,
are most successful when the above is kept in mind. Spells for safe journeys,
changing behaviors, creative energy, planting, female relationships, weather,
understanding mean people, ancestral searching, and healing do well when
water is a major focus.
Note:
Excuse the absence of paragraph breaks, however water is so interconnected
with everything that I found it hard to break up.
